There are a few interesting side effects for when certain events are triggered that aren't in the script, some of which can't be predicted. Essentially the game thinks you're in the room you were before. When the menu is closed, it reopens the script that it had stored.
When the room is exited, it doesn't close the menu and loads the item menu with the current room's script. The reason this happens is that the game stores the current room's script when loading the item menu script.
